Robert Hight will start his 13th season behind the wheel of the 330-mph Automobile Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car in 2017. Hight is currently the fourth all-time winningest Funny Car driver in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, and he’s not stopping there.
This intense 47-year-old has added to the legacy of John Force Racing, taking the Auto Club Funny Car to more final rounds (57), winning more races (37), and starting from the No. 1 qualifying position more often in the last decade than any other professional Funny Car driver. With his third career win at the historic Gatornationals last season, Hight continued a streak of 12 straight seasons in which he has won at least one NHRA national event while qualifying No. 1 at least once in his Auto Club Funny Car.
Hight began driving the Auto Club Funny Car in 2005, getting his first win in just his fourth pro race on his way to earning the Auto Club’s Road to the Future Award as the NHRA Rookie of the Year. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment so far came in 2009, when Hight captured his first NHRA Funny Car Championship. Since then, Hight has always been a top contender for the championship, producing numerous performance records along the way.
Following a stellar 2015 campaign, Joey Logano, Todd Gordon, and the No. 22 AAA Ford Fusion competed in the Chase for the NASCAR Championship once again in 2016.
During the 2016 season, Logano won three races, finished in the top five 16 times and in the top ten 26 times. His win in Phoenix during the Chase earned him a spot in the Championship Four for the second time in his young career as a member of Team Penske. After an exciting championship race in Miami, Logano finished the season in second place.
Helio Castroneves has long been considered one of the "larger than life" personalities in the Verizon IndyCar Series. Behind that dynamic and engaging persona is an ultra-talented driver who has achieved remarkable success and ranks among the legends of the sport.
Behind the wheel of the No. 3 AAA/Automobile Club of Southern California Chevrolet, Castroneves finished in the top five eight times and in the top ten 10 times in 2016. One of the most consistent drivers in the series each and every year, Castroneves continued his high level of production in 2016, finishing third in the final standings.
